30-Yard Dumpster: What Fits, What It Weighs, What It Should Cost

Updated 2026-10-21. Prices are sourced ranges, checked against national cost data — your hauler's written quote is the number that counts. Get it in writing, with the included tons and overage rate on it.

The short version

The 30-yard is the big remodel box: roughly 22 ft long, 7.5 ft wide, 6 ft high — about 12 pickup-truck loads. Typical rental: $400–$800, usually with 3–4 tons included.

What fits

What goes wrong

Two things. First, driveway fit: it's the same footprint as a 20-yard but taller — check overhead wires, tree branches, and garage overhangs before delivery day, or you'll pay a $195–$350 dry-run fee for a truck that couldn't drop it. Second, weight: a 30-yard encourages "one more load" thinking with heavy materials, and overage is still $40–$200/ton.

Before you book a 30-yard

  1. Measure the drop spot and the overhead clearance.
  2. Included tons in writing — heavy jobs live or die on this number.
  3. Street placement? You may need a permit — see our Chicago permit guide.
